A message from PhillipDrummond about the upcoming beat battles

What up folks...I wanted to let you know about 4 upcoming beat battles/events which I'll be organizing (there will be two beat battles at BAPC so it's actually 5 upcoming battles). I've attched fliers for some of these. The first is BART Series Beat Battle (BYO Beats) on Friday June 11th at Club 6. It is a fundraiser for a program that works with at-risk youth using Hip Hop called "Beats, Rhymes and Life." It's a $15 entry fee which generates the prize and covers a BRL tshirt Here's the concept: producers from Oakland/East Bay/San Jose who rep the Oakland A's will get green tshirts with yellow print that say "Beats, Rhymes and Life" and will battle among themselves in a bracket and the same will go for those reppin the Giants and the winners of each of those groups will battle each other in the final round for the cash prize. The fliers for this one are BART cards (see attached) and will be the size of BART cards...should be ready Tuesday. We're expecting a good turnout for this one, so please get at me and let me know if you want in.

The second is my "All Over the Map Throwback Beat Battle" Thurs July 1st @ Element Lounge, in which contestants will do a different regional style each round (boom-bap/east coast, dirty south, west coast g-funk, Bay Area Hyphy/Mob) for a cash prize. Also a canned food drive for Glide Memorial. Non-competitors/your folks can get up to +6 free guest list by RSPV'ing on going.com/alloverthemapbeatbattle

The third is the Bay Area producer conference at which FLO and I will be hosting and helping with the main battle (you must read the directions in the further down in this email on all entry rules etc. and/or watch this video where FLO explains) and also a sample flip battle during the break. I have discounted tix for $65 (standard price is $80) for all past winners of my beat battles. Get at me ASAP!

The fourth Beat Battle is the Oldies Beat Battle on Thursday July 29th @ Element Lounge, in which producers will be flipping oldies (50's/60's) head to head for a cash prize and gear.

Hooks can be on your beats, but ABSOLUTELY NO SINGING OR RAPPING ON THE VERSES.

You will be judged 1-10 (10 being the best) on the following categories:

Originality (something new and fresh, doesn't sound like anything out there)
Marketability (can the song be on the radio or on an album? Can you hear someone spitting over it?) - We will be emphasizing this category especially
Quality (sounds are crisp, separation in the mixes, low end is thumping, good arrangement and transitions, etc.)
Overall Potential (does this producer have what it takes to get to the next level?)
